MRA title almost in United’s grasp

ALLENTON United moved a game closer to the Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division title with a 2-1 victory over Swanwick Pentrich Road.

Danny Briscoe scored both goals to take his total for the season to 28, just shy of the record-breaking 34 he scored last season.

Willington continue to chase in second place though. They won 2-1 away at Ashover with goals from James Becket and Brett O’Donnell while Dave Kirk supplied the Ashover goal.

Melbourne Dynamo, after a confidence-boosting win in the week, had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Cromford. Anthony scored for Cromford and Carl Allsopp for Melbourne.

Rowsley 86 seem to have found new power. Witness their 4-1 crushing of Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure. Royces had to look to a penalty for their goal.

Jack Smith scored the only goal of the game as Long Eaton United Reserves beat Holbrook St Michaels while Belper United drew 2-2 with Castle Donington Town. Jamie Sparkes and James Baxter both scored for Belper.

Another 2-2 draw involved Newmount and Wirksworth Town. Buglione and Danny Gilligan netted for Newmount.

There was drama in the battle for the Division One title as second-placed Derby Royals trailed Little Eaton 2-0 before battling back to win 7-2. Karl Francis (three), Andy Bacon (two), Dan Milward and Troy Black scoring the turnaround goals.

No such problems for leaders Mickleover RBL who put a halt to Ripley Town’s recent winning run by defeating them 2-0.

Matlock Sports also maintained their challenge by winning 3-2 against Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure Reserves with two goals from Dan Bridge and one from Michael Cartwright.

The Selston challenge would appear to be at an end though as they were beaten 2-1 by bottom team Holbrook St Michael’s Reserves after leading 1-0. Simon Billyeald and Andy Simcox scored the Holbrook comeback goals.

Sam Cudworth and Dan Greatorex scored the Pastures goals as they lost 4-2 to Allestree. Michael Bestwick scored the Findern goal as they lost 6-1 to Shirland Athletic.

Punjab United won 5-2 playing Derbyshire Amateurs.

The top of the table clash in Division Two went the way of visitors Derby Singh Brothers as they beat Woolley Moor United 2-1. Richard Warbey scored both of the Brothers’ goals while Brett Turner netted for Woolley Moor.

That result kept Rowsley 86 Reserves very much in the mix and they capitalised to the full by beating Hilton Harriers 5-0. Billy Lester, with two goals, and John Cooper, Dan Gregory and Dan Broach did the scoring.

Ambergate scored four but lost to Sandiacre Town Reserves, who scored seven themselves. Shane Linthwaite, Tom Aston, Mark Randall and Wayne Randall all scored for Ambergate.

Bottom team Bargate Rovers Reserves lost 2-1 to Swanwick Pentrich Road Reserves with Phil Fern scoring their goal.

Jack Gill (two) and Mack Oakton scored the Mickleover RBL Reserves goals as they beat Punjab United 3-1.

Melbourne Dynamo Reserves won 2-1 at Wirksworth Ivanhoe with Rob Brough and an own goal counting for them while Dan Smith scored the Ivanhoe goal.

Mike Whittal and Jake Howard were both on target for Wirksworth Town Reserves in their 5-0 win over Pastures Reserves. Their other goals came from Chris Warmbey, Tom Childs and Ashley Kenneth.
