Nursing Cup Competition teams ready for the off

There will be 11 teams, representing tenclubs, contesting this year’s Belper Nursing Cup Charity Competition.

The event was due to start tonight (Wednesday) with a match between Holbrook Sports and Swanwick Pentrich Road at Shaw Lane but that has been put back to April 3 (7.45pm) due to the weather.

It culminates in the final, to be held at Christchurch Meadow on Monday, May 6 (7.30pm).

Teams taking part this year are Ambergate, Bargate Rovers, Bargate Reserves, Belper Town, Belper United, Belper Nailers Reserves, Duffield Old Boys, Duffield Rangers, Holbrook Sports, Holbrook St Michaels, Swanwick Pentrich Road.

The first round of matches, to be completed by April 12 are: Ambergate v Belper Town, Belper Nailers Veterans v Holbrook St Michaels, Swanwick Pentrich Road v Holbrook Sports.

The other teams receive a bye and the second round matches are to be completed by April 26.

At a recent annual meeting, it was decided that the Penguin Club would be one of the beneficiaries for this year’s competition.

As for the other beneficiaries, it has been decided to open it up to applications from other groups in Belper/Duffield, Swanwick/Holbrook/Ambergate area.

Applications for funding should be sent to: The Honorary Secretary, 21 Spanker Lane, Nether Heage, Derbyshire, DE56 2AT.

The applications should be received no later than Friday, April 19.
