This Sunday’s opening fixtures in the seventh annual Stan Brewster Memorial Football Tournament have had to be moved due to rabbits!

As with previous years, the opening two group A games were scheduled for the pitches at Ripley Police Headquarters.

However, the Police have informed the tournament’s organising committee that their pitches are unfit for use as they have been dug up by a plague of rabbits!

Sunday’s opening games of the tournament, Ripley Town v Codnor Miners’ Arms and The Crib v Newton FC, are now being played at the Denby Institute pitch at Kilburn.

The Ripley v Codnor game starts at the earlier time of 12.30pm with the Crib v Newton following on at 2.15pm.

The venue for the games on Sunday, July 8, and the semi-finals on July 15, will be announced on this website as soon as we have confirmation.

The midweek games at Charles Hill Playing Fields are not affected and will go ahead as scheduled.

Clubs with any queries are advised to contact competition secretary Jayne Green on 077100 60327.
