Player call for girls’ football side

Belper Town Under 17s Girls Football team is appealing for more players in a bid to improve the future prospects of the team, formed just over a year ago.

Secretary David Laughlin said: “We want to encourage girls who were aged between 15 and 17 at August 31 this year to come and join our team. Ladies football has become the nation’s number one female team participation sport and is the fastest growing sports sector in the UK”.

The team plays on Saturday mornings in the Derbyshire Girls and Ladies League. Home matches are at Cavendish Fields, Matlock. Transport can be provided for matches.

Training takes place on Mondays at Belper Town (7pm). Contact team coach Rob Willis on 07807 269696 or email him at

Rob Willis added: “We only have 12 players at the moment but we really need to increase our numbers if we are able to cater for enforced withdrawals from the squad.

“Although we play in nine versus nine games, we need a lot more players than that to give players a breather during games and to cover absences through illness or injury.

“We also want to win a few more matches this season and to consolidate the progress that we made last season.
