Reserves miss out amid the wind and rain at Heanor

Holbrook Sports Reserves lost 4-2 at Heanor Town on a wet and windy night at the Town Ground.

In the ninth minute, Alex Marshall looked to have done everything right getting into position and hitting a fierce low shot just inside an upright for the opening goal. But at the last minute the ball struck a Holbrook leg and deflected just the wrong side for a corner.

However, in the scramble which followed the resultant flag kick the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line and Andreas Kokkinou claimed the final touch. Michael Cordoso got clear for Holbrook four minutes later but shot wide when he should have scored.

But Holbrook did level in the 18th minute when Mark Szuta calmly let the ball and the wind do the work as he drifted past a couple of home defenders and found the bottom corner.

Heanor regained the lead in the 45th minute when Kokkinou’s looping header following a free-kick beat Waddington.

The wind dropped totally at half-time and Holbrook were back on terms again within four minutes of the restart, Szuta finishing splendidly.

Heanor regained the lead though seven minutes later when Lions man-of-the-match Jack Lightly hammered a lovely first time volley high into the net. Heanor completed the scoring after 74 minutes when Luke Duerden’s whipped shot from the edge of the area took a huge deflection into the net.
