Ripley Town beat high-flying Rowsley

RIPLEY Town recorded a fine victory at their Nottingham Road ground when they beat third-placed Rowsley ‘86 Reserves 1-0.

An even, tightly fought first half ended goalless before the decisive goal came ten minutes into the second half when the impressive Darren Chatterton went on a solo run and drilled what proved to be the winner home with power from a tight angle.

It was a goal fit to win any game and the same player almost made it 2-0 shortly afterwards but his strike hit the cross bar.

Rowsley rallied and forced a fine save from home keeper Andy Boden but Ripley, who had put in a committed and disciplined performance, held out for a win which lifts them up the division one table.

The only other first division fixture on the day saw Mickleover RBL Reserves and visitors Punjab United share a point apiece after a goalless draw.

In division two, both Melbourne Dynamo Reserves, and Wirksworth Ivanhoe closed in on the inactive leaders.

Melbourne beat Newton 2-1 whilst Ivanhoe drew 1-1 at Chellaston Reserves.

Derby Royals Reserves went down 4-2 at home to Punjab United Reserves.

Wirksworth Town Reserves grabbed their third win of the season, 3-0 at the expense of struggling Hilton Harriers.

In the Premier Division, defending champions Allenton United continue to dominate matters following a 4-0 win at Holbrook St Michaels.

Rowsley ‘86 beat Newmount 5-1 and Cromford’s good form of late continued with a 6-3 home win over Swanwick Pentrich Road.

After a good start to the season, Willington have lost their way of late, a 4-1 home defeat to the improving Derby Royals confirming that fact.

Melbourne Dynamo don’t appear to be the team they were either and they dropped more points in a 2-2 draw with Mickleover RBL.

Both Ashover and Matlock Sports continue to find wins hard to come by.

Ashover went down 3-1 to Wirksworth Town and Matlock Sports 5-2 against Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure.

Meanwhile, there was only one major shock in the second round of the Junior Cup with Little Eaton Reserves beating Bargate Rovers 2-0.

It could also be argued that Ambergate’s 2-1 win at Woolley Moor United also went against the form book.

Both Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure Reserves and Swanwick Pentrich Road Reserves were confident home winners with Royce’s 8-1 victors over Pastures Reserves and Swanwick 10-4 winners over Bargate Rovers Reserves.

Allestree beat Holbrook St Michaels Reserves 4-1, Derby Singh Brothers won 4-0 over Derbyshire Amateurs, Mackworth St Francis beat Pastures 2-1 and Tibshelf shaded Findern 2-1 to complete a quartert of home winners.
