A lacklustre display by Holbrook Sports was punished by Arnold’s Courtney Hastings who helped himself to hat-trick in a 4-1 win.
Hastings scored in the 14th, 45th and 53rd minutes before James Price scored from 28 yards on 79 minutes to complete a miserable day for Holbrook.
An 86th minute consolation goal direct from a free-kick by Niall Mather was Holbrook’s timid response against a well organised and bright Arnold team.
Due to the recent weather enforced break from football this was only Holbrook’s third league game in seven weeks and their usual creativity and spark was evidently missing due to a lack of match practice.
Half chances fell to Louis Ratcliffe and Ashley Hayes, but a lack of quality due to rustiness throughout the team ensured that Holbrook did not pose much of a threat to the home side.
Manager Paul Romney said: “We knew coming into the game that the long bouts of inactivity would have an effect, our usual tempo was missing and the energy levels and quality were not enough to win a football game.
“All the players are bitterly disappointed with our performance and we are determined to put this behind us and respond positively next weekend away to Ashby Ivanhoe.”
