Season ends with sixth defeat in row

Belper’s sorry end to the season ended with a 2-0 loss at Newcastle Town, who secured their place in the EvoStik League.

It was the Nailers’ sixth successive loss, but after a torrid run of results Aaron Webster’s side looked more settled than in previous weeks.

Although The Nailers edged possession, there was nothing clinical about their finishing.

At the other end, Orlando-Young cut in from the left but his shot was comfortably saved by Joe Searson-Smithard.

The young keeper made his most meaningful stop of the match, palming the ball to safety from a goalbound header.

Aaron Bott held his head in his hands after flicking the ball over from six yards out for the home side, wrapping up a scrappy first half.

Sam Birks squandered Belper’s best opportunity, glancing his header just wide of the post.

Kieran Harrison tried his hand from distance and forced home keeper Adam Alcock into a smart save low down to his left.

But Belper were the makers of their own downfall.

Aaron Cole failed to clear his lines, allowing Orlando- Young to nick the ball.

Going around Joe Hunt, the winger calmly slotted his strike under Searson-Smithard to give Newcastle the lead.

The home side sealed their survival with help once more from the Belper defence, which failed to clear fully.

Bott skipped past Jake McIntosh, steadied himself and fired home ten minutes from time.

Belper were unable to reply at the end of an ultimately frustrating season that never seemed to kick into gear.
