Sports look for a change of fortune after latest loss

There was another weekend of disappointment for Holbrook Sports in the East Midlands Counties League, as they lost 2-1 at the hands of Holwell Sports on Saturday.

Sports conceded the opening goal of their game after just 22 seconds.

Mark Tinsley slid in unopposed to shock a sleepy Holbrook defence.

Josh Hooley equalised for Holbrook after 11 minutes and, for a 20-minute period, Holbrook had chances to take the lead, but their Achilles heel of late came back to haunt them and, after 31 minutes, further sloppy defending saw Holwell captain Michael Stevenson fire home for what proved to be the winning goal.

Holbrook gave a spirited account of themselves in the second half but the failure to find creativity in the final third of the pitch was always going to hinder them.

Ultimately, their endeavour eventually fizzled out and the game finished as a 2-1 victory to the hosts.

After the game, manager Paul Romney said: “We are in a poor run of form at the moment and lady luck has deserted us.

“The squad is working hard and we are all determined to get us out of this rut.

“I’m sure we will get our just rewards soon enough.”
