Swanwick Pentrich Road have got off to a great start in their bid to lift this year’s Belper Nursing Cup.
The charity football competition is now in its 44 year and aims to raise money for good causes in the area.
Last year, £1,250 was handed over to three local good causes. This year’s chosen charities are the Holbrook Defibrilator Fund plus Swanwick Playgroup and Ambergate Playgroup.
Clubs at the AGM agreed they would like to raise funds for other defibrilator funds in the area in coming years so this will be ongoing theme in the Belper Nursing Cup.
Eight teams are involved in this year’s competition: Belper United, Belper Town, Bargate Rovers, Duffield Old Boys, holders Holbrook Sports, Holbrook Sports Reserves, Holbrook St Michael’s and Swanwick Pentrich Road.
In the first quarter-final, Swanwick PR beat Holbrook Sports Reserves 3-0. Holbrook Sports were due to play Belper Town last year, with Bargate taking on Duffield Old Boys on April 23 and Holbrook St Michael’s playing Belper United on a date to be arranged.
Semi-final dates will then be arranged after that and the final is on Monday, May 5, at Belper Town’s Christchurch Meadow ground (7.30pm start).
Prize draws take place at all games to help with the raising of money for this year’s chosen charities.
