It’s been two in and one out for Belper Town this week as Grant Black continues to shape his squad for the 2018/19 Evo-Stik East Division.
The Nailers have secured the services of John Guy and Callum Lloyd - two players known to the club’s supporters after their contributions last season.
Defender and former captain, Guy, saw his season cut short in February of this year after suffering a serious jaw injury in a match against Corby Town.
But he is back in the mix for the forthcoming season and a familiar face around the Marston’s Stadium alongside several new additions made by Black.
The Belper boss said: “He’s a player we knew about before we came to Belper Town and we rated him really highly.
“He was a player we targeted as wanting to keep straight away so we are delighted.
“John feels we are going to be moving the club forward and wants to be part of that and we feel he will play a big part of that for the upcoming season.”
Black has also retained attacking midfielder, Lloyd, who has agreed to stay on as the Nailers plot a better season than last, which saw them finish 16th in the table.
Lloyd joined Belper from Matlock Town in December of last year and maintains numbers following the departures of long-serving duo Dominic Allen and Alex Steadman last week.
“”We have been impressed with his attitude and professionalism from day one,” said Black.
“We see him as giving experience to the squad and are really happy to have him commit to the club.”
While young forward Sam Birks has left the club and joined Leicestershire-based Loughborough Dynamo, who play in the same league.
Birks progressed through the youth ranks at the Marston’s Stadium and was part of the successful under-21s side managed by Wynne Garnett.
He became a regular in the line-up last season and the club wished the player well and thanked him for his services on their official website.
- Belper begin their pre-season fixtures schedule this Saturday (14th July) with a short trip to South Normanton Athletic of the Midlands Football League Premier Division.
