Holbrook Sports finally started their pre-season schedule on Tuesday evening with a excellent 1-0 victory over local rivals Heanor Town.
Heanor who convincing won the East Midlands Counties League title last year, winning promotion to the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, are always difficult opponents.
The game was settled by a Gav Whitehead 25 yarder which deceived former Brookie Simon Lillie in the Heanor net.
Both sides had chances but looked a little rusty but must be happy with a very good workout.
Holbrook assistant manager Vaughn Hallsworth reflected: “I am pleased with the way every player applied themselves and it was a very good performance with great work rate.
“At times we played some nice football and we also acquitted ourselves well when under pressure. As we started with eight debutants and trialists, a clean sheet against a very good side, it bodes very well for the future.
“We have had to start afresh again this season, but the coaching staff and the players, have all been excellent to get the team ready and competitive for the new season”.
