It’s all change down at Belper Meadows

AFTER an interesting winter, it’s all change at Belper Meadows with new captains being appointed for all league teams.

Once again the club has shown it’s willingness to develop Youth cricket and will be running teams at all levels for U11 Kwik to u17.

In addition, this year Meadows will be playing U11 hardball in the Derby and District Youth league to further enhance the junior set up.

Plenty of social events have kept the membership entertained with regular quiz nights punctuating the winter months along with a successful Race night down at the club house.

The more energetic element went on a F1 karting experience at Loughborough.

Saturday, April 9 saw the launch of Natwest Cricketforce weekend.

This is a nationwide initiative to encourage members of all ages to assemble at the ground to carry out essential maintenance and facility upgrade work.

The club especially thank Focus DIY for their support in supplying materials for the ground improvements.

Meadows have totally refurbished the bar area and added to their fencing area to make the ground look even more immaculate than usual.

Events on the field commenced with the first friendly against Mickleover CC played at the Meadows last Saturday.

The club are also looking forward to hosting the Derbyshire 2nd XI fixture for a three-day match against Yorkshire second XI which started yesterday (Tuesday 19).

The first round of league matches start on Saturday, April 30 when the first XI host Derby Congs.

August 7 will see the return to the meadows of a local Pub and Firm six-a-side tournament set to be staged on two large pitches.

It promises to be a fun packed day for all the family.

Throughout the season the Meadows junior sides will be competing Sunday mornings and most evenings during the week.

Thanks are again extended to McDonalds who not only support the Meadows junior teams through the season, but also stage a Junior food fest event to feed the youngsters.

The club are delighted to welcome VW Commercial as the juniors’ sponsors and with their help, all of the club’s junior players will receive a shirt.

It promises to be a fantastic season on and off the field, and anyone wanting to join the club as player or social member, open net sessions are held on Tuesday nights from 6.30pm.

Belper Meadows cricket Club welcome people of all ages and ability to try out or simply sample some Meadows hospitality. Feel free to pop down to the Meadows any Saturday afternoon from April to September.
