Belper Town have made another summer signing with the acquisition of experienced midfielder Jermain Hollis from Evo-Stik League Division One South rivals Basford United.
With the start of the new football season rapidly approaching, teams across the Evo-Stik League are looking to add the final pieces to their teams before the start of their pre-season friendlies.
And the Nottingham-born, 29-year-old Hollis is Belper boss Charlie Palmer’s latest signing having had a much-travelled career across non-league football, starting at Kidderminster Harriers back in the 2004/05 season.
He soon returned to the local area to play for clubs including Hucknall Town, Gresley Rovers, Eastwood Town, Carlton Town, Shepshed Dynamo and Long Eaton United.
Hollis then played a crucial part for Basford United last season, making 31 appearances and helping to guide them to a fourth place finish, a play-off final defeat to Coalville Town denying him and his teammates promotion.
He will strengthen the Nailers midfield and will not only bring good passing and creative ability, but will also be good competition for the other central midfielders who are currently at the club.
Nailers fans will get their first opportunity to see Hollis in a Belper Town shirt when they visit Ashby Ivanhoe on Saturday (16th) for their first pre-season friendly.
The Leicestershire-based club are currently in the East Midlands Counties League, two leagues below The Nailers, and managed a third place finish last season.
This will be the first of the eight friendlies the Nailers will face.
Belper were due to have a match on Wednesday (13th) against Real United, however this game was cancelled earlier this week due to Real United not yet being affiliated with the Nottinghamshire FA.
Meanwhile, new signing Hollis will be up against his old club in the FA Cup preliminary round after Belper were drawn away at Basford United in a tie due to be played on Saturday, August 20.
In the FA Trophy, the Nailers will host Goole AFC in the preliminary round on Saturday, October 8, the winners from that tie then set to be at home to Premier Division side Blyth Spartans on Saturday, October 29.
The Evo-Stik League Division One South fixtures will be released this Friday, July 15.
