Belper Bicycle Club’s Derrick Woodings gained third place in the over 70s category in the 2013 National LVRC Road Race Championship.
The ‘Tour of the Fosse’ was held around the village of Kineton in Warwickshire. Derrick was just pipped in the final sprint by John Ginley who took second on the day.
Mike Allen was fourth in the separate 65-69 age group race, while teammate and club chairman Bill Cotton finished a respectable seventh.
The Saturday club run for new riders goes from strength to strength with a great turnout for the latest ride out into the Derbyshire countryside.
This is usually led out by Derrick and Bill and this week they headed out on the A6 towards Matlock. Steadily taking in the hills, they made a quick stop at the Miners Standard pub in Winster for some vital refreshment in this current heatwave. Don’t forget there is also a faster Sunday club run that leaves at 9.15am outside the Hurt Arms, Ambergate.
Last but not least, Belper BC rider David Wallwin rode the inter-club ten-mile time trial in Matlock last Tuesday and secured third. Matlock rider Leigh Fearn got the fastest time with 21:47 while David finished in 22:08.
