Buoyant Belper Strutt Club are back on top of the Darley Dale and District Snooker League -- by a single point!
Contrasting results saw Strutt defeat Edgefold Club Matlock No.2 4-1, while the previous leaders, Bolehill Institute No.1, fell 3-2 at home to Alfreton Palmer Morewood, who are four points off the top in third.
The hero of Strutt’s win in Matlock was Paul Jarrett, who top-scored in the second frame, while Mark Newby wrapped things up in the next. Duncan Harwood was on target for the hosts.
The father-and-son combination of Kevin and Jamie Rowland sent Alfreton on their way, with the former winning his ninth match in 12 outings and an excellent display of potting earning the latter an 88-52 victory.
Andrew Brough gave Bolehill hope by fortuituously snatching the third frame, but the visitors soon restored their command, with Simon Mayes making no mistake in the next frame, and only a 22 break from Ricki Slack rescued the doubles frame to reduce the deficit to the minimum margin.
In the week’s only other match in the Harriotts Sweet Chariot Event Planning-sponsored league, reigning champions Edgefold Club Matlock No.1 stayed in touch with the top three by beating Bolehill Institute No.2 4-1. The hosts took the first four frames, with Rob Muxlow (28 break) top scoring, before Ian Peacock and Martin Foster thwarted the whitewash on the concluding doubles leg.
Meanwhile, in the Elliotts Carpets Billiards Division, Jim McCann tops the highest-break chart after scoring runs of 118 and 96 in a match against Tansley Potters, who took their revenge last week with a 14-3 victory.
