Belper Ladies Hockey Club returned to winning ways with a 3-2 win over Beeston.

Beeston started the game at a fierce pace and took the lead after 11 minutes.

They continued to keep up the pressure and went close on a number of occasions after that.

But Belper weathered the early onslaught and gradually became more prominent in the game and crucially scored twice in the five minutes leading up to half-time.

The equaliser came from a Georgie Grostrate flick as she reacted quickest when the ball rebounded off the home goalkeper following a penalty corner.

This was quickly followed by Rhiannon Rogers who found the net with an accurate crossshot.

The second-half saw Belper exert more control on the match and, with 10 minutes remaining, Lynne Coombes made it 3-1.

There was still time for Beeston to pull back a goal to make a tense finish.

And, just as the whistle for time sounded, Beeston were awarded a penalty corner.

But fortunately the Belper defenders were able to smother the attempt and send the side into next Saturday’s clash with Harborne with good momentum.
