The youngsters of Belper Marlin Swimming Club capped a successful month with fine performances in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire League.
The A team faced some stiff competition, having earned their place in the top group. But they battled hard to claim third place, with Phoebe Barden, Jolie Baker, Alice King and Megan Crompton showing real determination against tough opposition.
The B team also acquitted themselves with credit, with William Bradley, Dannan Lewis and James Hicklin stepping up to the plate against older swimmers at Alfreton Leisure Centre. Joe Gibbard competed in six events, showing terrific team spirit. Overall, the Marlin swimmers pulled out 16 personal-best times, demonstrating how much they wanted to win.
In another event, the club also made their presence felt at the Harvey Hadden Sports Village in Nottingham. In a pool similar in size to that used in the Olympic Games, they competed in a level-one, long-course meet where swimmers had to have clocked the qualifying time to be invited. The Marlin team of Rebecca Ellis, Lucy Rantzen, Katy Dymond, Jessica Hancock, Fearn Middleton, Ryan Horobin, Cameron Haynes, Morgan Hart, Joshua Horobin, Connor Osin and Elliot Stubbs put in massive performances, beating previous PB times, reaching finals and collecting medals.
