A costly defeat for leaders Belper Strutt Club enabled their closest rivals to draw level on points at the top of the Darley Dale and District Snooker League.
Strutt were beaten 3-2 by third-placed Alfreton Palmer Morewood, for whom Kevin Rowland got things rolling by taking the opening frame on the black to make it 12 wins from 15 this season. Wayne Shooter levelled and Paul Jarrett (32 break) put the hosts in front. But the Alfreton outfit stormed back with the help of the top break of the week (39) from Jamie Rowland, who demolished Mark Newby 90-32. The same player then clinched the victory on the deciding doubles frame with Simon Mayes.
The Belper team were duly joined in first spot by Bolehill Insititute No.1, who recorded an excellent 4-1 success at Edgefold Club Matlock No.1. Ian Birks and Mark Gwynne-Jones won both frames they contested after Andrew Brough had got their side off to a flier.
Elsewhere in the league, struggling Matlock Golf Club bagged only their sixth win of the campaign when edging out Edgefold Club Matlock No.2 3-2. Rob Dicken registered breaks of 32 and 25 to take his tally of wins for the season to 13 from 15 for the visitors. But Graham Jones (30 break) was also in sterling form for Matlock, who sealed their triumph with wins on singles and pairs by Nick Kay and player-of-the-week Jack Lynch, who notched a run of 27 in a 77-5 rout of Josh Lee.
The week’s other fixture also finished 3-2 as Bolehill Institute No.2 left Matlock Club on the bottom of the table. Keith Robertson posted his second 30 break in as many weeks, while Graeme Wood top scored for the vanquished.
