Call for volunteers to help run Derbyshire road road

ORGANISERS of a 10k race in Derbyshire are calling for volunteers of all ages to donate their time and help run the new event.

The Wilne 10k is a road race taking place for the first time on Sunday, September 4, in Church Wilne near Draycott. The organisers are looking for race crew volunteers to manage the runners along the route, at the water stations and in the car park.

Richard Kay, Wilne 10k race director, said: “The volunteers are just as crucial to the run as the runners themselves. Without volunteers giving up their own time to help there would be no race. There are lots of different jobs to be allocated throughout the day, some of which would be perfect for a family or a school group/club to manage.”

The race starts at the Church Wilne Water Sports Club and navigates through the village of Church Wilne taking in the beautiful views across the River Derwent embankment. The race is one of the flattest 10k road races in the country and is ideal for those seeking an easy road race or those seeking a personal best time.

Richard added: “We’ve already had a number of entries which is great at this early stage and we’re confident the event will attract many more runners over the next few months.”
