Belper Bicycle Club’s young rider Christian Boon was in top form on Saturday in Round 11 of the SRAM Notts and Derby Cyclo-cross League event.

In a meet that was held at Sherwood Pines, Christian finished in fifth place out of 54 other under 12s riders, including teammates Eddy Warbrick (who came in 15th) and Liam Northridge.

Less than a week earlier, Christian secured another fifth place victory at the Midland Regional Championships, which was held at Beaumont Leys in Leicester.

Back to Saturday and, across all age events, Belper had a very good turnout of 15 cyclists who were taking part in the event.

Lara Husselbee was the first Belper rider through in the under nines race while Isabelle Boon was first through for Belper in the youth race.

Also in action was Jonathan Marshall (Zepnat), who finished in 15th in the Seniors event, in a race that was eventually won by Dieter Droger (Dirt Wheels), recording five laps of the circuit in a time of 54:30.

There is one more race left this year and that is for Round 12, which is due to take place at Thornbridge, near Bakewell.

This will take place on Saturday, December 29

A club spokesman added: “Hopefully the Belper riders will be keeping the mince pies to a minimum over the Christmas break!”
