A RIPLEY schoolgirl has shone for the Derbyshire golf team.
Bethany Griffin, a Year 8 pupil at Ripley Mill Hill School and member of Horsley Lodge Golf Club, and Emily-Mae Hall, a year 10 at Frederick Gent School in South Normanton, made it through to the national finals by finishing in fourth and fifth places respectively in their event in the Midlands School’s Golf Championships. A team spokesman said: “This was a superb performance that saw them play much better than their handicaps.”
The event was held at Hollinwell Golf Club, Nottinghamshire, and saw the Derbyshire team record memorable success, with 13-year-old Bradley Moore, from Kedleston Park Golf Club, becoming the youngest ever winner of the championships. Team manager and county schools’ secretary, John Barker, said: ““We have never before had so many qualifying for the National Finals. Hopefully one or two will finish high enough in the event to gain an England cap later in the summer against Scotland.”
