Good turn-out as Cyclo-Cross gets under way

The Cyclo-cross season has now started and Belper BC riders of all ages are riding in the Notts & Derby Cyclo-cross League (NDCXL).

There are 13 races held at various locations between now and January next year, and these races are split into various age categories from under 9s through to seniors.

There was a good turnout for round one held at Hardwick Hall on September 1.

Lara Husselbee, Caitlyn Austin and Lewis Austin competed in the U9s event. The U12’s saw Christian Boon, Eddy Warbrick, Liam Northridge and Jack Husselbee riding. Isabelle Boon, Taylor Marshall, Alice Warbrick and Georgia Husselbee rode the Youth race.

The senior event saw 180 riders compete and Jonathan Marshall (riding for Zepnat) came 31st, Tony Goldstraw (Empella) 41st, Nick Bates 71st, David Husselbee was 74th.

Round two was on Saturday, September 8 at the Hilton Fields Farm, in Hilton, Derbyshire and again Belper had a good turnout with Lara Husselbee being the first U9 rider through, Christian Boon being the first U12 Belper rider and Isabelle Boon the first youth rider through.

Jonathan Marshall was the first placed Belper senior rider with that even being won by Dan Booth from Hope Factory Racing.

This week the competition moves to Shipley Park, Heanor for round three and should also see Belper BC host a good line-up for this local race.

On to the road and Derrick, Mike and Bill all rode in the LVRC Birmingham CC National Criterium Championships where Mike won a bronze in the F age category.

Sunday, September 9 was the sixth round of the Percy Stallard series EFG race. This was also the 13th Tour of the East Coast Road Race.

Belper rider Mike Allen won by over five minutes and he now has the maximum point total of 30 points in his 65-69 age group as he has won all of his five races.

Derrick Woodings finished third in the 70-74 age category making him second overall Bill is in second place in the 65-69 age category.
