Sally Goodman was Belper Ladies’ hero in a crunch relegation battle at the bottom of the Investec Conference North.
Goodman struck the only goal of the game against bottom-of-the-table rivals Timperley Ladies.
She reacted quickest to a blocked shot to fire a rebound into the net in the 54th minute.
Before the tense relegation battle, Belper were dealt a blow when Sarah Glenn was ruled out.
She had suffered concussion in a schools match the previous day.
That meant Belper were one substitute short.
Timperley employed one attacker high up the field throughout the match in an attempt to stretch play, which kept switching from end to end.
Amy Hobson was outstanding in the Belper defence as the first half was scoreless.
The second half followed a similar pattern until Goodman’s winner.
Belper then had to defend in depth and were relieved to hear the final whistle.
The win put them four points from safety ahead of the short trip to Loughborough Students on Saturday.
The following week Belper are at home to Sutton Coldfield, ahead of a crucial trip to third-from-bottom Liverpool Sefton.
