The win ensures Belper remain top of the Midland Region Hockey Association Womens League Premier.

Kyla Madsen gave Belper the perfect start with an early goal.

However, in what was a scrappy first half the hosts hit back with an equaliser to ensure it was level at the break.

Belper then regained the lead in the second half after a brilliant strike from Sarah Glenn.

That capped a wonderful week for the youngster, who received a call-up to the England under-16 squad.

Boots pressed strongly for a second equaliser but the Belper defence, marshalled superbly by Louisa Boddy, held firm,

They very nearly extended their lead on the counter attack, but both Kyla Madsen and Sally Goodman were denied by the Boots’ goalkeeper who had an outstanding match.

Belper have a home clash to look forward to this Saturday, with University of Birmingham the visitors.

l After their mid-season break, Belper’s men’s first team entertain Wakefield on Sunday (February 8).
