It’s not every day that a Hollywood star drops into the area.

So it’s no wonder that there was a full turn-out from members of the Heanor and Belper Professional Kickboxing Association for the occasion.

The film and television credits of Scott Adkins are extensive and include everything from Hollywood blockbusters such as The Expendables 2, Green Street 3, and X-Men Wolverine through to Hollyoaks, Doctors and EastEnders.

But he is also a martial arts expert and former kickboxing teacher and loves being able to get involved in the activity at grassroots level whenever his busy schedule allows.

Scott spent three hours working with both adults and juniors, putting them through their paces and teaching them the secrets of power kicking and perfecting their technique for maximum results.

He said “With such a busy shooting schedule for a number of films, it is hard for me to commit to sessions like this on a regular basis. ”

Neil Fletcher, who runs the clubs with fellow instructor Mel Carp, said he had been trying to get the actor along for a seminar for about five years since he last trained in one of his seminars and wanted to give his students the same opportunity.

Neil added “We realise how incredibly busy Scott so it was great when he confirmed he could come.” along. We’ve had 62 students from across the clubs come along and the excitement has been building for weeks”.

Scott demonstrated a series of kicks and jumps during the sessions and gave the youngsters some good advice saying: “Keep working hard and you will get better. Above all, believe in yourself.” Although some of the junior kickboxers were too young to see some of his films their parents had filled them in as to his amazing moves on screen.

Kirsty Cockerill from Loscoe said: “I’ve been training for a few years now and jumped at the chance to meet Scott and learn from him face-to-face” Mark Jones from Ripley added “It was a fantastic session, I really learnt a lot and it’s great to see that he really can do all those things you see on film”.

Scott finished the session with a question and answers session, signing autographs and posing for photographs much to everyone’s delight.
