Belper Marlin Swimming Club took part in round two of the Derbys & Notts Junior Swimming competition at Sharley Park in Clay Cross.
Once again the youngsters swam strongly to take third place, a feat they also achieved in the first round. This time they closed the margin and were just short of capturing second place against Etwall.
First place went to Nottingham Leander with 200 points, second were Etwall wirh 148, Belper were third with 143, fourth place went to Bramcote with 137 and Matlock were fifth with 68.
There were six first places from Marlin youngsters. Sam Frost in the boys 11 yrs /under 50M Butterfly in 38.50; Casper Raynard in the boys 10 yrs/under50m Butterfly in 41.52; Poppy Fisher in the girls 10 yrs 50m backstroke in 41.43 and the 50M Butterfly in 41.06; Joshua Horobin in the 12 yrs 50M Breaststroke in 38.33 and the 50M Butterfly in 34.61.
Other team swimmers who deserve a mention for their performances are Ellie Baker, Sam Bassett, Rachel Ainley, Lauren Neild, Ryan Horobin, Katie Dymond, Dominic Shrimpling, Georgina Elder, William Brookes, Henry Stubbs, Ailish Adams, Caitlin Oram, Rebecca Phelan, Holly Phelan.
Head Coach Mike Brett said: “This was a really good team performance, with no disqualifications and many pb times which also highlights the skill of the coaching team we have on board. The club should be proud . We were once again very close to second place.”
Meanwhile, three young Belper Marlin Swimming Club members took part in the Retford L3 Open meet held in Sheffield last Sunday, and all swam well, finishing in medal places.
Amy and Lauren Neild and Connor Osin all won medals in their respective age groups.
The successes and times achieved by all of the trio were as follows:
Amy Neild won first in 50 Free 30.59, first in back 1.13.67, second in 200 Individual Medley 2.45.98, third in 200 Free 2.25.98, fourth 100 Free 1.08.10, 50 breast 42.49 fifth.
Connor Osin gained the foll-owing positions for the 15 years boys age group: 50 Back second place 32.00, 100 Individual Medley second place 1.09.58, 100 Back third place 1.08.16 & 50 Free, eighth place
8th place 27.96.
Lauren Neild finished fourth in 50 breast 43.27, 11th in 50 back 42.28, tenth in 100 Individual Medley 1.28.21, tenth in 200IM 3.11.10 (a 27 second pb).
