Belper Marlin Swimming Club produced their best-ever performance at the first round of the Arena National League by winning the first gala in a closely-fought contest.
The event took place at Stafford last weekend.
Only promoted to Division Two in the last couple of years ago, the Marlin squad produced a series of fine performances.
These highlighted not just their speed but also successfully demonstrated how their skills and techniques have been developing over the past year.
Up against five other strong clubs from across the Midlands, the members of the Belper Marlin Swimming Club team ran out victors by eight points.
A spokesman for the club said: “The team members were smiling and singing as they entered the coach for the journey home – and the hoarse parents, from all their cheering, were as proud as punch!”
There were 12 victories for Belper Marlin Swimming Club in the 48 events.
Winners for Belper included William Brookes, Dominic Shrimpling, Elliott Stubbs, George Chamberlain, Amy Neild, Leah Hollingsworth, and Ben Goodall.
In the boys 15 medley and freestyle relay and the boys 11 medley and freestyle relay, the team comfortably beat the competition to claim their victory.
The spokesman added: “The club has moved on a long way in the past few years and looks forward to the draw for the second round, which takes place in November. “
