LAST Saturday saw the Belper Marlin squad travel to Sharley Park to compete in the second round of the National Arena Swimming League, West Midlands Division Two.
And what a marvellous result they achieved as they claimed a very respectable fourth place with 170 points, smashing several club records along the way.
Abingdon were first with 204 points, Boldmere B were second with 189, solihull were third with 184, Falcon finished fifth with 150 and Mansfield came in sixth with 148.
Standing strong against some tough contenders in this league, Belper improved their final position and fourth at this stage of the game is very good indeed.
Ben Goodall was in his usual excellent form, claiming club records on all three of his individual swims.
Maddy Shrimpling swam in the 13 years and under breaststroke and in a time of 1.25.88 broke the club record (12 years age group) which stood since 1987!
The 15 years and under relay boys also set a new club record for their freestyle in 1.48.99 with Ben Goodall, Myles Moorby, Rob Ainley and Dan Breeze coming in first place.
Marlin swimmers at this event were Fran Marshall, Ben Goodall, Rachel Ainley, Sam Bassett, Maddy Shrimpling, Callum Phelan, Amy Hewitt,Connor Osin, Anthony Haslam, Lauren Neild, Alex Raynard, Amy Neild, Elliott Stubbs, Leah Hollingsworth, Emily Taylor, Jonathan Altoft, Ellie Hewitt, Callum Sheldon, Rob Ainley, James Allen, Poppy Fisher, S Dymond, William Brookes, Casper Raynard, Sam Frost, Tia Millington, Jake Gidley, Hannah Kingdon, Natalie Brett, Dan Breeze, Myles Moorby, Mike Brett,
At the end of the competition Marlin romped home with eight first places, seven second places and nine third places.
All in all, this was a fantastic team effort. The support the swimmers have also helps their performance and chief coach Mike Brett was thrilled and proud of all his swimmers performances and team results.
Mike also swam in the open relay events.
