BELPER Bicycle Club took part in a muddy new venue of Rosliston Forestry Centre last Saturday in round eight of the NDCXL.
The club were well represented in all four races at the event which was near Burton-on-Trent.
The Under-9s event saw three Belper riders Caitlin Austin, Lara Husselbee and Lewis Austin all finished behind the eventual winner Ben Chiltern of Derby Mercury.
The Under-12s race was made more lively by a short period of rain making the under wheel conditions even more slippery.
Belper regulars Taylor Marshall, Jack Husselbee, Edward Warbrick, and Liam Northridge all had good races but a mechanical failure led to the disappointing retirement of Christian Boon. The five-lap race was won by league leader James Swadling of Notts Clarion.
Isabelle Boon was the sole Belper BC entrant in the Youth race and put in a good performance to come home as first Under-14s girl.
At the front, the closely fought race was won by William Chavey (Lloyds Cycles) from league leader Tom Weeds (Derby Mercury).
The Seniors event saw only 167 finishers from a large starting line up as the mud and under wheel conditions took their toll, resulting in a large number of retirees due to broken bikes!
Belgian visitor Kenny Geluykens (Asfra Racing) won the five-lap race by nearly two minutes from league regulars Andrew Naylor (Ashfield RC) and Chris Metcalfe (Charge Bikes).
Despite the conditions, all the Belper riders managed to finish the race with Nick Bates and Shaun Warbrick coming home in the same time. They were followed by Steven Boon, David Husselbee and Nigel Britton.
Belper BC members Jonathan Marshall, racing for Zepnat finished 20th and Tony Goldstraw, racing for Team Empella, finished 31st.
