Matlock Cycling Club’s annual Winster Circuit time-trial took place early on Sunday morning in wet and cold conditions.
The ten-mile course sees riders ride along the A6 to Picory Corner before turning left on the ascent up towards Winster, before dropping down to Darley Bridge, meaning a real mix of climbing and fast flat/downhill sections.
Peter Colledge proved too strong and powerful for the few hardy riders that braved the weather.
Colledge clocked a winning time of 25 minutes and 58 seconds, beating arch rival Chris Green into second by nearly a minute. Colledge’s early season form has been very impressive, and he will once again be a force to be reckoned with in the Matlock CC Points Series, which he now leads by two points from Gareth Ferguson.
Paul Hodgkinson showed his form was improving as he finished in third spot in a time of 28:11.
Christine Howard was the fastest female rider – finishing in sixth place overall in a time of 33 minutes and 44 seconds. Results: 1 Peter Colledge 25:58, 2 Chris Green 26:49, 3 Paul Hodgkinson 28:11, 4 Gareth Ferguson 28:39, 5 Mike Bradley 32:07, 6 Christine Howard 33:44, 7 John White 34:43
Meanwhile, some of Matlock’s top time-triallists were in action in Open events over the weekend, with Doug Forrester and Dominic Wibberley taking part in the Retford & District Wheelers ten-mile event.
Scratch-man Matt Sinclair of Lutterworth Cycles was far too strong for the rest of the field, as he took the win with a mightily impressive time of 19 minutes and 58 seconds.
Matlock’s Doug Forrester secured an impressive eighth place overall, finishing in a time of 22:03. Teammate Wibberley finished in 20th spot overall in a time of 23:43.
