More success for Belper BC members

Belper Bicycle Club members Derrick Woodings and Mike Allen rode the Tour of the Wolds road race in East Lincolnshire last weekend.

Mike won the 60-plus age race and was also first in his age category after escaping the field in a seven-rider break-away group.

Derrick was chasing three minutes behind, riding on his own for two laps having broken away from a ten-man group; a depleted field due to a serious accident.

The accident was in a 40-plus age event and meant the rest of the riders were stopped.

Derrick won his 70-plus age category finishing several minutes ahead of the 10 other remaining riders and this included his rival Ron Bennet (Wakefield).

All the prizes were split in two with half being given to the emergency services in attendance and the rest to the injured rider.

It’s been a fantastic weekend for British Cycling at the 2012 Tour de France with Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky.

Hopefully this will filter down to local level with people either wanting to take up the sport or just get out on their bikes to lose weight.

It’s great to be in a local club whatever your abilities, and to be part of a group of like minded people sharing the same interests.

The next club night is Monday, August 6, at the Strutt Club, Campbell Street in Belper, starting at 7pm.
