SEVEN Ripley Running Club members attended the Dewsbury 10km race last Sunday.
The event had been reviewed as one of the fastest 10km races in the country so every Ripley runner was apprehensive as to whether they would get their initial personal best time.
It was an out and back course on the main ring road A652 in Dewsbury with a slight uphill start with over 500 runners.
All seven runners from Ripley pushed themselves to the limit and all came back victorious, personal bests!
First back for Ripley was Ian Duffin in 101st place in a marvelous time of 39mins 06 secs next back and not far behind was Ryan Ball in 108th place in 39mins 24 secs, Steve Broughton was in 124th place in a super time of 40mins 17secs and Simon English was in good form coming back in 126th place in a time of 40mins 24 secs, while Matt Beresford one of our newest members came home in 191st place in 42mins 56 secs.
The ladies were not to be out done in the PB stakes, Esther Broughton came back in a superb time of 47mins 17 secs in 290th place and Claire Duffin showed all her training has paid off just recently by coming back in 329th place in 48mins 56 secs knocking three minutes off her previous best.
Burton Plate race
A few ardent runners took part in the final cross country plate race which is specifically for teams who came second in their respective leagues.
Ripley Running Club were second in the Booth Decorators Cross Country League and so put through a team.
It was a treacherous day with rain and sleet lashing down on the way to Burton. Luckily the rain stayed away for the actual race but not before leaving behind a five-mile route of seriously slippy mud!
The route saw runners literally scrambling to get up the hills, attempting to hang on to bushes to balance them and some just sprawled out in all the mud! It was tough hilly route with lots of twists and turns but the brave runners of Ripley still put in a great effort.
Dale Annable did Ripley proud by finishing in second place. Dean Taylor also put in a great performance taking 8th place. Mark Tomlinson finished 24th , Lee Palfreyman was 29th despite having no spikes.
A very special mention for Matt Beresford who had just completed the Dewsbury 10k and managed to get over to Burton for this race.
He finished in 30th place! Now that’s commitment! Jerry Bateman was 32nd and Ryan Smith 33rd .
The ladies consisted of just Jo Howett and Paula Brudenell. Both put in a great effort with Jo taking eighth and Paula 12th in the ladies.
The Team took second place overall which was a fantastic result!
