Strong field for summer league

The third race in the Booth Decorators summer league series at Shipley Country Park saw 40 Harriers start.

Another strong field of 283 runners saw the Belper team finish second overall to Heanor Running Club.

The men finished second and the ladies fifth. After three races the club is sitting in second place in the overall team event while both the men and ladies are second in their events.

Our first runner to finish was Dale Annable who finished fourth closely followed by Ben O’Connell in fifth place. The consistent Edward James and Alex Duthie were our next finishers in 19th and 21st position. Simon Merwood followed in 22nd place, sadly his last run for the club as he is moving.

Krishna Mahadevan and Phil Conroy were our final counters for the men.

For the ladies Joanne Caborn was our first lady home in 72nd position.

Further down the field there were some tremendous runs with runners coming back from injury or getting back to their best form. We had six runners making their debuts, including superb runs from two of our younger runners.

Seventeen year old twins Laurie and Adam Illingworth pleasantly surprised their older teammates to finish 54th and 64th respectively. Robin Clegg, Brian Daykin, Teresa Billington and Charlotte Kelly could also be well pleased with their debut runs.
