Swimmer Megan Oram came up with an egg-cellent idea when the Belper Marlin club competed in a gala over the Easter weekend.
Along with a team manager, Megan decided to give the competitors at the City Of Derby meet an incentive by handing out golden Easter eggs to all those youngsters who won a medal, achieved a personal-best (PB) time or clocked a Midland qualifying time. While those who didn’t were threatened with the baton of shame!
The carrot-and-stick approach was very successful and many of the Marlins came away with fine times and medals around their necks. They even included Megan herself, who swam out of her skin to annihilate her previous best time and go sub-40 seconds for the first time in the 50m freestyle.
