Nailers frustrated by the weather

What was set to be a thunderous occasion came to a lightning halt on Saturday as adverse weather conditions ensured the game between Loughborough Dynamo and Belper Town had to be postponed.

The pitch was in near perfect condition some 20 minutes before kick-off, however a freak thunderstorm resulted in non-playing conditions as the referee saw fit to call the game off.

Manager Peter Duffield accepted the game’s fate as uncontrollable.

He said: “Unfortunately, there is just nothing you can do about something like that.

“The referee tried to bounce the ball on the pitch and it stuck to the ground, so it wouldn’t have made for much of a football game in the end.

“It’s a shame for both sets of supporters who made the journey to come and support their teams, and it’s a shame for the two clubs who had prepared well for the occasion.”

Duffield then turned his attentions to the Nailers’ next fixture which was due to be played last night (Tuesday) at home to Gresley FC, where he hoped his side could retain its good home form.

He said: “Tuesday will be a very difficult game. They’ve got some very good players and had a brilliant result on Saturday which will help their confidence.

“However, no matter who we play against, we want to win. If we’re serious about a challenge at the top then we have to aim to win every game, especially those at home.

“We have a fully fit squad to choose from which is refreshing as Scott Low will be back and ready for action.

“The only absentee is Aaron Pride who is currently playing some games with Shirebrook FC in order to get back to full match fitness. He is still very much in our plans.”

As construction of the new floodlights has got underway over the past week at Christchurch Meadow, Duffield is only too pleased with his ‘brilliant’ football club’s ambitions.

He added: “It’s another brilliant addition and another progression at what is a fantastic football club.

“We have a brilliant ground and this will add to the occasion for everyone involved.”

The Nailers’ fixture away to Loughborough Dynamo has now been rearranged for Tuesday, March 11 with a 7:45pm kick-off.
