HOLBROOK Sports manager Leigh Grant was pleased with his side’s ability to bounce back to form.

He said: “It is great to bounce back against a good Thurnby side.

“We made a few changes and shook the team up a bit.

“Gerome Palmer has returned to the club and he slotted in at centre half. Matt Hill also did a great job in midfield for us.

“The commitment was back again and we need to continue with that over the next few games.

Sports welcomed back Lee Mitchell and Palmer to bolster the side after defeat against Blaby the previous week.

Manager Grant also started Sam Ridgard in a much-changed side.

Paul Campbell started the game up front and had Holbrook’s first chance, showing good footwork and pace to outstript the Thurnby defence before screwing his shot wide.

With the game being played on a frozen pitch, the hosts had much of the possession but without really troubling a solid-looking Holbrook defence.

On 45 minutes, Thurnby shouldh ave taken the lead but a free header went agonisingly past the post.

The second half continued in the same vein and on 60 minutes, Robbie Harrison made a brilliant last-ditch block and Simon Lillie anequally good save to deny Nirvana the lead.

Darren Ruston then turned the game Holbrook’s way.

Two towering headers on 70 and 78 minutes gave Sports a two-goal lead and the visitors safely saw the game out.

Attendance: 20.
