HOLBROOK Sports manager Leigh Grant refused to criticise his side after defensive errors had seen the last chance of silverware slip away with defeat in the league cup final.
Grant reflected: “Having had a full 18 to pick from was great, but having Paul Campbell fail a late fitness test was a big blow for us.
“So we started the game 4-4-2. In a final you cannot give the other team a two-goal start as this made it an uphill battle after only ten minutes. All four of their goals were very poor to give away in my eyes. We were all over the place for the first 25 minutes. We couldn’t defend, we were miles off the pace and if you do that you get punished which we did.
“Yes we didn’t play as well as we can, but we also had enough chances to win two games never mind one.
“Overall though I think the lads have had a great season, getting to the last 16 of the Vase, a cup final and sixth in the league.”
