Top ten finishes for Matlock youngsters in Glasgow event
The event always attracts the very best riders from all over the UK, which meant there were some very competitive, exciting races over the two days the event was on.
Matlock CC’s U16 youth riders are some of the strongest in the country, and the club had a superb day as Will Gascoyne, Arthur Green and Gregg Booker all finished inside the top ten.

Hide AdIn the Youth U16s female category, local rider Sarah Lomas – riding for Scott Contessa Race Team – finished a solid seventh overall.
In the Juvenile U14s races, Matlock CC had its two highest finishers of the weekend, with Ffyona Booker coming fifth in the female category and Cameron Orr also fifth in the male category.
Matlock CC’s Tuesday night ten-mile time-trial along the A6 only attracted nine starters due to the torrential rain that had fallen late in the afternoon.
By the time the riders took to the start line, the rain had stopped and the wind was still.

Hide AdDave Wallwin of Belper Cycling Club, was the fastest rider on the night, clocking a time of 22 minutes and 2 seconds.
Kevin White was second, just over 30 seconds down on Wallwin, recording 22:34 – just four seconds quicker than Chris Green in third place.
Mike Blair put in yet another strong performance to finish in fourth overall in 22:47.
Maz Heffron – the leader of this years women’s points series – finishedin 26:55 for seventh overall.

Hide AdThursday night’s 6.5-mile Hilly time-trial near Cromford was a particularly fast night, with the South Westerly wind aiding the riders up the climb through Lea.
Adam Kenway of Buzz Cycles was the comfortable winner, recording a sub-18 minute ride to finish in a time of 17:46, ahead of Chris Green in 18:59. John Johnston was third on 19:41, whilst Steve Heading finished fourth on 19:48.
In other time-trial news, Matlock CC’s Alan Cooke has been in fine form of late.
Riding two recent 25-mile Open time-trials, Cooke recorded times of 52:37 in the North Notts Olympic Road Club’s event to finish fourth overall, and then 55:21 to finish fifth in the Warrington Road Club event.
