Final call for young art talent

With just under one month to go before the close of Peak District Artisans’ Young Artist of the Year competition, there is still time for budding artists to submit their entries.

Following the success of last year’s competition - which attracted entries from throughout the Peak District and close surrounding areas – the group has increased the maximum age limit to 25 and the catchment area to the whole of Derbyshire.

The competition aims to identify and give recognition to art students aged 16-25 in Derbyshire who have outstanding talent.

There are no restrictions on technique, materials or style.

The work can be 2D or 3D, but it must be effectively reproduced in 2D printed form if required.

PDA chairman Chris Farrow said: “As a group, we understand how challenging it can be for young artists starting out in this industry and we want to support these people who are serious about art.

“We’re looking for up and coming artists that can demonstrate their unique insight and creative vision as well as skills with materials.”

Shortlisted candidates will be selected and given the chance to compete in the final. These entries will be judged by a panel of members of the group who will select the winners.

The competition will see the overall winner receive £200 in cash, with second and third places receiving £100 and £50 respectively.

All three will have the exclusive opportunity to exhibit their work alongside some of the finest artists and artisans at the award winning annual Great Dome Art Fair in Buxton, July 20-21.

Organised by the group, the fair is a hugely well-attended and highly respected event.

The deadline for entries is 6pm onApril 13, this will be followed by the shortlist announcement on May 10.

Winners will be announced at the Great Dome Art Fair preview evening, July 19.
