Film and TV stars join in the fun at Ambergate Carnival

Stars of the silver screen will be appearing on the streets of Ambergate this weekend, as the village gears up for its annual carnival procession.

People will be dressing up as their favourite film or TV personality for the colourful parade which will leave the Hurt Arms car park at 1.30pm on Saturday, July 14.

The main event will be held at the The Recreation Ground, Derby Road, Ambergate, and will be opened at 2pm by “Captain Jack Sparrow”, who will also be judging the fancy dress competition.

Tina Faloon, vice-chairman of the Carnival Committee, said: “Abba Eyes are our headline act this year and will performing some fantastic songs that are bound to get everyone dancing and singing along!

“Also performing during the afternoon will be the Milford Maids of the Mill, local choir Bel Canto and the Long Eaton Militaires.

“Elsewhere on the Carnival Showground, we have a host of stalls, sideshows and attractions for all the family to enjoy, including a bouncy castle and inflatable slide, have-a-go archery, a climbing wall and mini Land Rovers.”

To help cover the cost of running the carnival this year adult visitors will be asked to make a £1 donation – children under 16 will be free. Entry includes a free Carnival programme.
