Thousands of music fans are expected to flock to in Derby for a a free outdoor concert, which is back in its traditional September slot.
Derby LIVE in association with Sinfonia Viva and Classic FM present the traditional end-of-summer celebration concert at Darley Park on Sunday, September 1.
Classic FM weekday Drivetime show presenter John Brunning will be introducing the event to an anticipated audience of over 30,000 .
The stunning natural amphitheatre of Darley Park provides the perfect surroundings for one of the UK’s biggest free outdoor classical concerts, which will be rounded off by a fantastic firework display.
Pete Meakin, creative producer with Derby LIVE, said: “The fact that Derby LIVE, as part of Derby City Council, is able to work with such names as Classic FM, Rolls-Royce and Sinfonia ViVA on this event is a true sign of just how important the Darley Park concert has become in both the city’s, and the country’s, cultural calendar. You’d be hard pressed to find a better, more enjoyable, evening out for the whole family.”
Conductor James Holmes is back to lead East Midlands Orchestra Sinfonia Viva and the sensational award-winning baritone Grant Doyle will join the orchestra on stage.
This year marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of John Whitehurst, the Derby clock maker upon whose work the Smith’s clock factory in Derby was founded, so the theme this year focuses musically on the enigma that is ‘Time’.
The classical repertoire takes us all the way from the timeless beauty and gentility of Grieg’s Morning from Peer Gynt to the dancing delight of Strauss and the Tik Tak Polka .
