The Belper-based Belcanto Male Chorus will be performing a World War One Commemoration Concert entitled Only Remembered in the town this weekend.
This original musical show, by chorus member Neil Harsthorn, and inspired by the World War One experiences of his grandfather, tells the story of two pals from Derbyshire, and takes us from the rural idyll of pre-war Britain to the battlefields of World War One and the hell of the trenches.
Using music of the era, Belcanto offer an evening which will entertain as well as giving an opportunity to commemorate the events which took place 100 years ago.
There will be songs, poems and sketches, as well as an audience singalong. The aim is for the audience to smile, maybe shed a tear but certainly be entertained.
A performance can be seen St Peter’s Church in Belper on Saturday, August 2, and then The Whitworth Centre, Darley Dale, on August 8-9. All performances start at 7.30pm.
Local businesses and organisations have generously sponsored the concert, which has enabled the choir to stage this show, and there has also been a generous personal donation from Robert Kirkland, for which the choir is grateful.
All proceeds from the sale of tickets goes to chosen charity, Help for Heroes.
The choir rehearses each Tuesday evening (7.45pm to 9.45pm) in Belper Baptist Church, Bridge Street, Belper. New members are always given a warm welcome.
The ticket price for each show is £5. Call John Crockford on 01773 823698 and Sid Harbey on 01629 55478.
