Gillian Bithel and Beate Toyka, the well-known Derbyshire piano duo, will be giving a recital in Bakewell Parish Church on July 21 at 11am.
Their programme will include Schubert’s F minor Fantasy and Brahms’s Waltzes op.39.
Both Gillian and Beate are graduates of the Royal Academy of Music in London. Gillian has been active all over the UK as soloist and sought-after accompanist, lately for Nina Martin’s outstanding young violinists.
She has been sought after to play and coach for BBC Young Musician of the Year Rounds. She has vast experience of piano ensemble music, both with concertos as well as original two-piano music. Gill has given recitals with oboist Leon Goossens and trumpeter Crsipian Steele-Perkins.
Beate is a soloist, accompanist, teacher, adjudicator and artistic director of the Belper Music Festival at St. Peter’s. She has had a long and rewarding musical friendship with the Derby Chamber and Concert Orchestras and Jonathan Trout, with whom she has performed numerous concertos over the years, some of which are listed on Youtube. She has lived for six years with her family in Botswana, in Southern Africa from where she toured to most surrounding countries. She and her fiddler husband Tim and son Jez form a family barn dance band.
Beate and Gill have worked together for 17 years and performed widely as a duo in four-hand repertoire as well as with works for two pianos. They played the UK premiere of Carl Czerny’s duet arrangement of Mozart’s Requiem. With the Derby Piano Quartet - eight hands on two pianos - they have given concerts all over the country, have encouraged young ensembles to form and travelled to Osnabruck on the invitation of the mayor there.
