Dynamic duo at Queen’s Head

Anthony John Clarke

Dave Pegg and Anthony John Clarke will be the guest performers at The Queen’s Head in Belper on Saturday, November 15.

Fairport Convention decribe him as a national treasure and his thoughtful, literate songwriting has established Anthony John Clarke as one of our foremost performers on the club scene.

A writer and performer who has never forgotten that the duty of the artist is to entertain, songs like The Wasted Years and Tuesday Night Is Always Karaoke rapidly became standards and so highly is he venerated by the Fairport family that he comperes the Cropredy Festival as well as performing there.

Neither does Dave Pegg need any introduction. A Fairport stalwart for 45 years, he has also worked with Jethro Tull on bass guitar and mandolin.

Going way back into his West Midland roots, Dave Pegg cut his musical teeth with artists as diverse as The Ian Campbell Folk Group and pre-Zep John Bonham. No wonder then that he is one of our most effortlessly eclectic musicians. His mini tour with Anthony John Clarke is described as ‘an evening of mirth and mischief’.

However, behind the broad humour and banter there are layers of consummate musicianship.

Support comes from Belper’s very own Chris Butler with new album If not now, when? gaining considerable praise and attention in the music press.
