The Colin Blunstone Band will kick off the weekend’s entertainment at The Flowerpot in Derby on Friday, June 6.
This is a chance to see a performer hailed by many as one of the greatest ‘60s rock vocalists ever, touring with his own all-star band.
Nobody sings like Colin Blunstone, the mild-mannered man from St.Albans, who became one of Britain’s most respected and popular vocalists. Lead singer with The Zombies, his distinctive voice manages to be both sweetly angelic and deceptively strong.
Now Colin takes a short break from the iconic Zombies to tour with his fabulous solo band, featuring songs from his 50-year musical career from She’s Not There with The Zombies, to solo hits I Don’t Believe In Miracles and Say You Don’t Mind and on to What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted with Dave Stewart and the unforgettable Old and Wise with the Alan Parsons Project.
Pete Billington leads the solo band on keyboards (Jamie Cullum, Alison Moyet and Kid Creole) with Chris Childs on bass (Thunder, Go West, Beverly Craven), Pat Illingworth on drums (Dave Stewart, Jeff Berlin, Hugh Masekela) and Tom Toomey on guitar (Zombies, Toomey Swarbrick).
Then, on Saturday, June 7, Are You Experienced are back at the King Street venue with their tribute to the music of Jimi Hendrix.
Guitarist John Campbell bears more than just a passing resemblance and has drawn on his many years of playing in different bands and various styles to perfect his ‘Hendrix’ persona. When he plays his strat behind his head and with his teeth, it brings a smile to the face of even the most finicky Hendrix fan.
With his unique visual playing style, bass guitarist Mark Arnold has also played in various bands over the years and provides a solid foundation as one half of the rhythm section.
Drummer and backing vocalist Kevin O’Grady, completes the line-up. Anyone who has caught the act will surely agree that Kevin puts nothing less than 100 per cent into his powerhouse drumming style.
Finally, on Thursday, June 12, Dodgy bring their Out In The Open acoustic tour to the venue.
The top indie outfit are hitting the road for their first tour of 2014 prior to the release of a brand new album.
The tour will feature the first airing of new songs written for their forthcoming album to be released on Cherry Red Records, plus a fine selection of their back catalogue including hits, fan favourites, covers and rarities.
Doors open at 8pm. Admission is £15 for The Colin Blunstone Band, £9 for Are You Experienced, and £15 for Dodgy. Advance tickets are available via www.rawpromo.co.uk
