Halle return to launch new season

The Halle will be back in the area on Tuesday, October 14, when they launch the Nottingham Classics International Concert Season 2014-2015.

The performance at the Royal Concert Hall in the city centre gets under way at 7.30pm.

Sir Mark Elder will be at the helm of the acclaimed, Manchester-based orchestra.

The concert is to feature three pieces: Wagner’s Flying Dutchman Overture, Brahms’s First Piano Concerto, and the Fifth Symphony of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius.

Brahms’s First Piano Concerto features acclaimed piano soloist Paul Lewis in a work written early in the composer’s career.

It is packed with a wide range of emotions and presents a considerable challenge for the soloist.

Lewis is a highly talented British pianist with a particular reputation in German and Austrian repertoire.

Wagner’s overture from one of his early operas is a barnstorming favourite which has become popular with audiences around the world while the symphony is a much-loved work which builds towards a glorious finale.

Tickets to see the concert are £10-£32.50.

They are available by calling the box office on 0115 9895555 or alternatively by going online to www.trch.co.uk
