Massed choirs at cathedral

Derby Cathedral welcomes singers from cathedrals across the country on Saturday and Sunday (March 1-2) for the Voluntary Choirs’ Association gathering.

Voluntary choirs supplement the musical offering of many cathedrals and these willing volunteers get together about every 18 months to sing en masse at a different cathedral each time.

Representatives of many of these voluntary choirs will sing Evensong for St David’s Day (March 1) at 5.15pm, and then the Cathedral Eucharist on March 2. Over 80 singers are expected.

The chairman of the Derby Voluntary Choir, The Revd Canon Peter Kefford, said: “Derby is delighted to host this event, which is a real chance for singers and listeners to hear such a large number of singers at the cathedral. It will be a lovely sound made in a beautiful building and all are welcome to come and hear them on either or both days.”
