songs on a summer night

The much-acclaimed Dalesmen Male Voice Choir are returning to Derby Cathedral for a concert there on Saturday, June 29.

This follows their success of March 2012 when they performed there in concert with the internationally renowned Opera Babes.

This year, the Dalesmen’s Summer Festival of Song will be introduced by James Roberson of BBC East Midlands TV and will feature four nationally acclaimed soloists who have each performed at the highest level and who include top professional opera companies amongst their many appearances.

Soloists include soprano Samantha Hay, contralto Gail Davies (above left), baritone Julian Empett and tenor David Watkins-Holmes (above right).

Now in their 26th year the Dalesmen were formed in Middleton-by Wirksworth by founder members including the late Reverend Reg Dean, who died in January at 110 years as Britain’s oldest surviving male.

The Dalesmen have invited the Eastwood Collieries Male Voice Choir to join with them, which will provide around 90 combined voices and will create a fine sound produced by four part male singing within the cathedral’s acoustically responsive interior.

The Dalesmen raise many thousands of pounds for charities and have chosen again the Derbyshire-specific charity of Age UK Derby & Derbyshire for their concert, as the organisation was incredibly supportive and helpful to the choir’s late president.

Age UK provide a wide range of services to the counties most vulnerable elderly people who are sometimes unaware that they can find help when they are most in need from this incredible charity.

The Summer Festival of Song starts at 7.15pm.
