Ashbourne Heritage Society is holding a pair of new exhibitions for residents and visitors to the town.
In a royal wedding year and in preparation for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the exhibitions, entitled Royal Ashbourne, will celebrate the many royal connections with the town.
The exhibitions are on August 27 and September 3 at The Ex-Servicemen’s Club on the Market Place, Ashbourne, from 11am until 4pm. Admission is free.
Among the exhibits will be a print of the 1585 Royal Charter, granted by Elizabeth I at the opening of the grammar school, as well as newspaper cuttings and photographs from Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Ashbourne to mark the schools 400th anniversary in 1985.
Displays will include photographs and film footage taken in Ashbourne during coronation and jubilee celebrations, which will be shown to a backdrop of coronation music.
